A guided journey toward finding the vitality within you through qigong.

What is qigong? 气功

QIGONG / CHEE GONG

Qigong is a type of Chinese health exercise that works with the body’s natural energy systems to enhance well-being. In Mandarin, qi means “vitality,” the energy that powers our body and spirit — that makes us feel alive and helps us experience emotions. Gong can mean “work” or “gather.” Together, qigong refers to a form of movement using intention and mindfulness to nurture a balanced, vital body. Now that qigong is among the “integrative” health practices recognized by Western medicine, people of all backgrounds have begun to include qigong in their personal health maintenance programs.

BENEFITS OF QIGONG PRACTICE

Qigong practices combine to bring about health improvements such as flexibility, strength, vigor and stamina, better posture, comfortable digestion, and general relaxation. Qigong and taichi have many aspects in common - similar types of movements, emphasis on breathing and postural alignment, physical relaxation, and calming of the mind. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety.

MY QIGONG COURSES

My qigong courses are designed to help practitioners recognize and experience ways in which the body, breath, mind, energy, and spirit are connected. They are appropriate for beginners with no experience and to people who have had training in various kinds of qigong. In qigong class, we practice one or a series of movements several times: to stretch tendons and ligaments; stimulate muscle, heart, and respiration; help support bone density, while matching our movements with deep, rhythmic breathing.

What does a class with Lenore look like?

This is not your mother’s qi gong class — it’s your grandmother’s! You don’t just log on and copy my movements. It’s a six-week, intimate, interactive, and individualized experience.

Each one-hour class has no more than eight students. At the start of each session, I get to know my students and help them (and me) better understand their bodies and goals. Customizing along the way, I work together with each student to help them find the vitality within.

About Me

A lifelong passion for Chinese culture and language originally led me to the study of qigong and taichi when I turned 70. While continuing my 30-year-long psychotherapy practice, I have been studying and practicing with Master Wu Ping in China and Master Nick Gracenin in Washington, DC.

Now at almost 80, I’m launching these online courses to help others practice qigong and find their vitality within.
